Available Visa Types for US Citizens

US citizens have exceptional access to Taiwan through the Employment Gold Card, a 4-in-1 visa including a work permit and residency. Standard options include the Working Visa (Resident Visa) sponsored by an employer and the Entrepreneur Visa.

Main Work Routes

Employment Gold Card

For highly skilled professionals in 10 categories (Tech, Economy, Culture, etc.). Open-work permit; no specific employer sponsorship required.

Work Visa (Standard)

The most common route for English teachers and corporate professionals. Requires a Taiwanese employer to apply for a work permit first.

Entrepreneur Visa

For founders of innovative startups. Allows multiple entries and residency for up to one year, extendable upon meeting business targets.

General Requirements

Valid US Passport (at least 6 months validity)
Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labor (MOL)
Validated Degree Certificates (Authenticated by TECO)
Clean Criminal Record (FBI Background Check)
Health Certificate (signed by a licensed physician)

Typical Process (Gold Card)

Online Application

Apply via the Foreigners' Talent Portal. Upload your professional qualifications and proof of income/achievements.

Document Verification

Taiwanese authorities (National Immigration Agency) will review your application. You may be asked for clarifications.

Passport Presentation

After approval, bring your passport to a TECO office in the US for physical verification and collection of your entry permit.

Entry & ARC Collection

Upon arrival in Taiwan, your Gold Card (ARC) will be ready for collection at the designated immigration office.
