Work & Residency Pathways for Taiwan Residents
Information based on current research for Taiwan residents wishing to live and work in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Taiwan residents can apply for the Working Holiday Scheme, the Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS), or the Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP). Hong Kong's proximity and similar business culture make it a top choice for Taiwanese professionals.
Top Talent Pass Scheme. For earners with HK$2.5M+ income or graduates from top 100 global unis (including several in Taiwan). Enter first, work later.
Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals. Despite the name, this scheme is the primary route for Taiwan residents with professional offers.
Allows Taiwan youth (18-30) to work and travel for 1 year. Annual quota: 800 places. One of the most popular short-term options.
Submit your application via the HK Immigration Department (ImmD) e-Services. GEP/ASMTP requires employer documents.
Assessment takes roughly 4 weeks for TTPS and 6-8 weeks for ASMTP/GEP.
Download the "Electronic Visa" once approved. Note that you may need a "Taiwan Resident Entry Permit" to enter depending on your status.
Apply for a Hong Kong Identity Card (HKID) at the Immigration Tower in Wan Chai within 30 days of arrival.

Taiwan residents with professional roles should ensure their employers are registered in HK. The TTPS is particularly advantageous for graduates of NTU, NTHU, etc.
