Work & Residency Pathways for Hong Kong Residents
Information based on current research for Hong Kong residents wishing to live and work in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Hong Kong residents have several pathways: the Working Holiday Visa, the EU Blue Card, and the new Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte). High-skilled professionals and youth are specifically targeted.
For highly qualified workers with a recognized degree and a job offer meeting salary requirements.
The points-based "Chancenkarte" for jobseekers. Requires basic German (A1) or fluent English (B2). Allows part-time work.
Allows HK residents (18-30) to work and travel for 1 year. Annual quota: 300 places.
Check if your degree is recognized in Germany using the "Anabin" database or apply to the ZAB.
Apply for a long-stay (D) visa at the German Consulate General in Hong Kong.
Travel to Germany and register your address (Anmeldung) within 14 days of arrival.
Apply for your electronic residence permit (eAT) at the local Immigration Office (Ausländerbehörde).
