Work & Residency Information for German Citizens (EU Free Movement)
As a German citizen, you enjoy the right to live and work in Austria without a visa or work permit under the EU Principle of Free Movement.
German citizens do not require a visa or work permit to enter, live, or work in Austria. You have the same rights as Austrian citizens regarding employment, working conditions, and social benefits.
Register your address at the local Meldeamt (in the Town Hall or District Office) within 3 days of moving into an apartment.
Your Austrian employer will register you with the Social Security (ÖGK), and you will receive your e-card.
If staying for longer than 4 months, you must apply for an "Anmeldebescheinigung" at the local migration authority (Magistrat/BH).
Ensure you are correctly registered with the Austrian Tax Office (Finanzamt) for income tax purposes.
